ONA 2007 Day one: Flash kicked my a$$

Flash_JournalismStill in Toronto at the Online News Association Conference.

After one attempt at liveblogging, I realized I had a decision to make: either liveblog or participate. I couldn’t do both. Liveblogging, at least to me, took me out of the conference a tad bit too much. The feeling was similar to taking a whole slew of photographs on vacation, then coming back home and realizing you were too busy taking a whole slew of photographs to get into the scenery. This probably says more about my attention span than the practice of liveblogging itself. If you’re more adept at liveblogging than me, you may want to check out Bruno Giussani and Ethan Zuckerman’s Tips for Conference Bloggers.

I attended a workshop on building multimedia packages using Flash on Wednesday. Mindy McAdams ran the course…and she kicked our butts. That’s a good thing. I taught myself Flash years ago, but my skills are suspect and I realized with the course that I was doing a hell of a lot of things wrong. Check out her book (click on the image).

More soon.
