This is the present state of my home office. I’ve tried Fly Lady. I’ve tried 43 Folders. I’ve tried just shoving everything on the floor or on my desk into a garbage bag without looking.
And yes it *is* that bad. I couldn’t get everything in the shot above. To the right is a trunk with a pile of junk on top higher than the Matterhorn and stuff all over the floor.
And it’s not just my office. It’s the whole place.
I’ve dropped the ball.
There are women I know here who can work all day, come home, clean up, cook AND have time for outside activities AND kids (Ashley, you there?). I do the first four tasks and half of the fifth and I’m exhausted.
How do they do it?
How do you do it?
I need some advice.
On another note: I had the honor of watching Marion Jones in the flesh as she laid waste to her competitors while running for UNC…well before she started juicing. Girlfriend smoked everyone on the track, without drugs.
So why the heck did she start? Also, if you want to screw up your body, that’s fine. But, this woman has had a child and, I believe, has another one of the way.
You mean to tell me all those drugs had/will have no effect on them?

I know it’s off topic and it won’t solve you problem, but do you ring the little bell for service?
We have a cleaning lady - we couldn’t justify putting her pay under non-negotiables in our budget, so we’ve added it to our luxuries. I don’t buy as many books or download as many songs anymore, but for that little sacrifice when I get home on Thursday night, our apartment is sparkling. We don’t have kids and we don’t do half as much as you do in a day. We just don’t want to have to do housekeeping. It does help that the cleaning lady is my mom-in-law and that she offered her services at a reduced fee. She enjoys her monthly beauty treatments and what she makes from the once a week cleaning covers those expenses.
Wait…do you realise that I (a working class immigrant) have a Swiss cleaning lady! LOL!!!
@Derna: The bell! LOL! Girl no it’s not for service!:-) I use it for meditation. I ring it once before I start and when I end! LOL!
And your cleaning lady is your m-i-l? That’s wild! I guess I’m too embarrassed to have a cleaning lady. I’d hate for her (or him) to see this hot mess we’ve got here.
I must admit I broke down and got a cleaning service about 3 months ago. I just couldn’t keep up with the cycle of keeping everything clean, plus fresh cooking and driving my daughter around town for her various activities. Because of my health, I have to exercise 5 to 6 times a week. There is just not enough time to stay on top of it.
Before I started the hiring of the service, organized enough to be passable and then continued organizing in bits and pieces over time. It has been a Godsend and have allowed me to breath a little more.
Oh I was embarrassed at the beginning too, but after a couple of housework-free weekends, I guarantee you lose that feeling!
