I’m closing in on my normal typing speed, so I can now post.
So, what happened?
I slashed the top of my right hand with a piece of broken glass. I was being cheap.
During one of my weekend cleaning rages I decided to scrub the glass toothbrush holders. If you live in Switzerland, you know the ones I’m talking about. Almost every bathroom here has them. They’re these cheap brown glass things that you can get at Migros (a supermarket). The ones in the main bathroom had gotten, uh “gunky” for lack of a better word. When I pried one out of the holder, I cracked it. But, instead of tossing it, I decided to try and save CHF5.00 with the idea of cleaning it and trying to glue the crack.
As I was washing it in the sink, the glass broke and a piece got stuck in my hand.
But, it wasn’t the slash that made all hell break lose. It was the fact that I was an idiot and wrapped a dirty dishcloth around the injury (I freaked and grabbed the closest thing because skin was flapping back and stuff.)
I know, too much information.
Anyway, add to that that the water was dirty and you’ll understand why the freak out happened. The hub cleaned the wound, pulled everything back together and sealed the area with these small adhesive strips, I think they’re called “butterfly stitches.”
But it wasn’t the cut that did me in. It was the freaking tetanus shot that I had to get that drove me nuts.
Rash a the doctor the next day:
Doc: So what happened?
Rash: Mumbles and explanation in Ginglish - German and English
Doc: Hmmm. Okay.
Doc looks at the wound, but doesn’t take the strips off for fear of opening it up again.
Doc: So, when was your last tetanus shot?
Rash: Dead silence.
Rash: Huh?
Doc: When. Was. Your. Last. Tetanus. Shot.
Rash: Um. Well, you see…
Do you remember the scene in the first Star wars (Episode IV, I guess) where Darth Vader is questioning Princess Leia and then sends in this floating droid with a big a$$ needle?
I felt like sticking a doughnut on each side of my head. That ish hurt. It hurt so much that I couldn’t raise my right arm properly for the rest of the week.
In any case, I’m fine now and just waiting to get back to full speed.
By the way, remember that Zertifikat Deutsch test I took?
The results came today: 241 correct out of 300.
I passed.
