itsallinyourhands.com, the irritation of Snap

satacracy I’m late to the party with this one. Check out itsallinyourhands.com, a People’s Voice Winner for the Webbys. Fabu site with series webisodes you can watch directly on the site or download to watch in a video player. The catch is that you get to decide the outcome (of the current episodes) by e-mailing your decision. I’m downloading the entire Satacracy88 series now.

On another note, probably one of the most irritating new advertising feature that a lot of sites are picking up is SnapShots. You roll your mouse over a keyword or a link and a “snap shot” of the website appears in a pop-up window.

Do you remember Pop-Up Video? Remember how a video with the pop-ups was cool and funny for the first five minutes, then it grated on your freaking nerves because you just wanted to see the video? That’s what I think of when I see these SnapShot pop-ups.

The gist of using these is that “supposedly” keep folks on the linking website, but I thought that by now everyone realized that a trying to have it both ways just doesn’t work. You can’t link to a site *and* try to keep folks from leaving yours. You keep visitors on (and coming back) to your site by having good content, not irritating functions.

Reinstalling Windoze on the laptop tonight. I wanted to keep it Ubuntu-only, but I must have a stable remote desktop connection program and couldn’t find one for Gnome or KDE that played well with the operating system. I’ll partition and re-install Ubuntu so I can have both on the machine.
