Angela posted a message asking about a K/ubuntu update. Well, K/ubuntu and I have been getting to know each other over the past couple of weeks. It’s been rocky at times, but I think we’re going to make it. But Angela, you are right about the sharp edges but I’m filing them down (wink). By the way, the pic to the left was taken by the hub with his infrared camera (hence the interesting color scheme).
Ah, I need to explain something before I go on: I use the term “K/ubuntu” because I’m running the Ubuntu distro with the Kubuntu interface. Kubuntu is a derivation of Ubuntu and is based on the KDE desktop environment. I know some expert is going to come along and say that I’ve oversimplified this, but that’s why they’re the expert and I’m not.
My main problem right now is getting online at work with K/ubuntu. Wireless LAN access is available, but I can only get on it using Windows XP (I have a dual boot). I have the exact same settings on each OS, but still, only Windows works. My fellow Ubuntu Swiss Team member Tormod hipped me to KWifiManager so I’m going to try that next week.
Speaking of the Ubuntu Swissness, if you’re in the Bern area 7-8 March, check out OpenExpo. I’ll be at the Ubuntu table.
Another issue I’m having is getting the printer set up. We have a GCC Elite 12/600. It’s old and huge, but it’s also a dependable workhorse so I’m hell bent on getting it to work.
Last issue, getting used to Gimp. The program seems to be just as powerful as Photoshop, but since I’ve been using the latter since - geez…college - I’m having a rough time with the menus and terminology. I probably need to look for a Photoshop-to-Gimp translator.
Before I forget, my config file is here. It includes the tweaks for the Wacom tablet and the screen resolution for Fujitu-Siemens Amilo. Take note of this comment about another tweak you may need to do.

Cool! You are so geek. And brave. I love Ubuntu but it still scares me from time to time.
Post that photo on Flickr with some notes? Is that a open hard drive on the desk?
Please post if you find a way to get your Elite working in Ubuntu. I am struggling with it myself right now. Thanks
