I’m going to hell.

I was just as excited as everyone else about Jill Carroll being released, but something isn’t setting right with me.

According to CNN she said: “They never said they would hit me. They never threatened me in any way,” she told an interviewer.

But, in the first video that was released of her when she was captured, didn’t she say something to the effect of “do what they want, there isn’t much time”? Weren’t the kidnappers standing around her with guns? And didn’t these folks demand that the US release all female prisoners being held in Iraq or they were going to kill her?

Just some thoughts.

Again, I’m happy she was released.

I am sad to say, but I felt that her kidnapping and release were staged so as to influence public perception when the war ratings are down.

Maybe I would feel differently if I actually lived in Iraq and could really see what was going on. Or maybe not.

  2. Rashunda, I think she is suffering from a psychological reaction call the Stockholm Syndrome. That is when a hostage forms a bond with her/his kidnappers. You can find an article about here with a mention of Carroll:

She’s publicly saying now that the kidnappers are criminals and that she was coerced into the video.

I mean damn, they killed her friend and translator, why wouldn’t she say anything to get released?

Mabi - Not sure if it was staged. But, something was up with the release I believe.

La Peregrina - I couldn’t put my finger on it but that’s what I was thinking. She seemed almost sympathetic. But, if I were in that position who knows what I’d do.

    Trula - Thanks.

Kyla - I posted before the last video was released. I was commenting on the video she did with the Iraqi political party. The place she was dropped off at after she was released.
