He what?!

From CNN.com: SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) — A member of Utah’s polygamous Kingston clan was sentenced Monday to a year in prison for taking a 15-year-old cousin — who was also his aunt — as his wife. Read more here…

He married his cousin, who was also his aunt. That meant that the girl was the sister of either his mom or dad, and was also…wait. I can’t figure that one out. Hold up, the couple had two children. That means their children are also their cousins?

I’m too dumb for this.

  2. I can’t figure it out. Someone explain to me how his cousin-wife is also his aunt-wife. It has to have something to do with his parents being related or something, right?

I have a cousin who married and eventually had 3 children. Some years later the father of my cousin (the male) married the mother of my cousin’s wife. (Both original spouses were deceased.) My cousin’s mother-in-law became his step-mother, thus his wife became his step-sister and vice versa. Where it gets complicated is when the grandparents had 2 more children. Each of those children are now brother/sister/in-laws to each other, half brother/sister and inlaws to the original married pair, and aunt and uncle on both sides through different blood relation of half sister/brother to each of the parents of my cousin’s 3 kids. It can get way more complicated than this.

So the girl in Utah was at least a half sibling to one of her husband’s parents and likely also was a daughter of one of the husband’s other siblings.

But Kyla, the father of your cousin and the mother of your cousin’s wife aren’t blood related…or did I miss something? I *think* my grandfather’s brother married the niece of somebody in my grandmother’s family. So yeah, you had a crossover, but it wasn’t blood.

I think it means that the man’s grandparent had a daughter with one of their own children (his aunt).

Sooooo…being his aunt’s child she would be his cousin.

And…being his grandfather’s child, she would be his aunt also.
