Some years later the father of my cousin (the male) married the mother of my cousin's wife. (Both original spouses were deceased.) My cousin's mother-in-law became his step-mother, thus his wife became his step-sister and vice versa. Where it gets complicated is when the grandparents had 2 more children. Each of those children are now brother/sister/in-laws to each other, half brother/sister and inlaws to the original married pair, and aunt and uncle on both sides through different blood relation of half sister/brother to each of the parents of my cousin's 3 kids.
